During a fire, the thermal-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb expands, causing the bulb to shatter and releasing the button and spring seal assembly. The water flowing through the sprinkler orifice then strikes the sprinkler deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern to extinguish or control the fire.

The sprinkler heads have the following specifications:

The sprinkler heads utilize the NPT (National Pipe Tapered) thread, which is a common standard in plumbing and some industrial applications. Also known as pipe thread, NPT is a tapered thread where the outside diameter of the male fitting and the inside diameter of the female fitting narrow with depth. As the two fittings are threaded together, the opposite tapers create thread friction, forming a seal without the need for a gasket.

These sprinkler heads are FM Approved (3053441) and UL / CUL listed (EX6430). They are 1/2" NPT (National Pipe Thread) American thread fire sprinkler heads, Underwriter Laboratories Listed, for both the United States (UL) and Canada (ULC).

The sprinkler heads have a nominal 5.6 K-Factor and a 5mm glass bulb, classified as Standard Response with a temperature rating of 155°F (68°C). The maximum working pressure is 175 psig (1.2 MPa or 12 bar), and they have undergone a 100% Factory Hydrostatic Test at 500 psig (3.4 MPa).

These are automatic fire sprinklers of the frangible bulb type.
